‘Misery’, the new hit by Good Charlotte, is the official song of the AST Dew Tour 2008. It could have been especially chosen for the adversaries of Daniel Dhers and Ryan Sheckler. They both seem to be causing their rivals a bit of misery. For Dhers, overall winner 2007, and Sheckler, overall winner 2005, ’06 and ’07, also continued their series of victories in 2008. They confidently won the Panasonic Open in Baltimore, Maryland, the first of five contests in this year’s Action Sports Tour. 14-year-old the main rival for Sheckler? Yet the overall win at the BMX Park and Skate Park contests doesn’t seem like it’s going to be a walk in the park for either Dhers or Sheckler. The competition this year seems too strong, the emulating talent too ambitious. ‘P-Rod and Chaz are amazing,’ even Ryan Sheckler raves about his friends Paul P-Rod Rodriguez and Chaz Ortiz, who came second and third respectively. For Ryan it’s especially the 14-year-old AST rookie Ortiz who’s the ‘upcoming It skater.’ His evaluation: ‘He skates like a champion; he’s got the attitude of a champion, and he wants to learn all the possible details of the skateboard world as quickly as he can.’ ‘Life of Ryan’ continues For the time being, though, Sheckler is still ruling the scene. MTV has extended his reality show ‘Life of Ryan’ for a third season. Plan B filmed with him in the Philippines, and the current edition of the scene bible The Skateboard Mag shows him doing an enormous kickflip over a fence on the cover. Dhers controls the competition Daniel Dhers’ toughest rival for the cup victory in 2008 could be Ryan Guettler, the 2005 champion. In Baltimore Dhers, who was in 11th place after the first round, was only able to displace him from the top spot at the last minute – thanks to a perfect no-handed flatspin 720 over the box, a double tailwhip 360, a 720 and a no-footed can-can to late tailwhip 360 over the spine. Mike Spinner, another dangerous rival in the overall standings, came third. Last year he was overall second behind Daniel Dhers. The overall third place winner from 2007, Ryan Nyquist, on the other hand only made it to fifth place in the Park contest in Baltimore. (Event’s PR)
