Once you’ve paid your £5 to get in virtually everything is FREE! It’s this weekend… July 12th and 13th, Millhouses Park, Sheffield: www.cliff-hanger.co.uk for more info, including plenty of information on local accommodation, and how to get there on public transport, on your bike or by foot.
If you didn’t make it last year check out the video of the weekend. US – the Carolina Wakeboard Series will return to one of its most popular destinations of last year. The 4th Annual Grand Strand Slam is on Saturday July 21st at the Boathouse Bar and Grill in Myrtle Beach (SC); around fifty wakeboarders from all across the southeastern US are expected. Riders of all skill levels are invited to come out and compete in the CWS’ third event of the 2008 season. UK – skaters & BMX riders of all ages are invited to show what they can do at an extreme sports event in Maltby this Saturday. The Manor Fields will be transformed for the day, which will also see three-wheeler KMX bikes alongside skateboarders and power kites. After the Manor Fields Skate opened in October 2006, a development grant  from Barclays Spaces for Sports was given last year and which has since been used to provide monthly skate and BMX events at the site, catering for everyone: beginners to experts. Saturday’s event , from 11am to 2pm, has been organised by Groundwork Dearne Valley (GDV), in partnership with Friends of Maltby Parks, and Rotherham Council’s Green Spaces, rangers, youth services and sports development teams. UK – a DOUBLE-header of music and extreme sports as Boston’s Party in the Park and the Skegness Kite and X-Fest are being held simultaneously. Music fans can use the Poacher Line to head for Central Park, Boston, where a weekend of live bands and local talent will be staged, with something to suit every taste. The festival kicks off on Friday, July 11, at 6pm, and will continue on Saturday, July 12, between 11am-11pm, and on Sunday, July 13 between noon-11pm… watch out though, entry by pre-paid ticket only.   SURFING – SOUTH AFRICA Australian surfer Chris Davidson crushed South Africa’s hopes of a second ever South African winner at the Mr. Price Pro, defeating ASP World No. 41 Travis Logie (Durban) before a patriotic crowd on New Pier beach in Durban. Surfers say no to 4000 MW nuclear reactor near J-Bay: the proposed nuclear power station at Thuyspunt, just 12km from Cape St Francis, a wave made famous in the 1960’s surf movie, the Endless Summer, poses a real threat to Supertubes, one of the most famous surfing waves in the world and home to the Billabong Pro, one of 12 events on the ASP world tour. Local and international surfers will not fancy riding radioactive waves at one of the best right handers in the world.  The influential Supertubes Surfing Foundation, the environmental organization that takes care of the beaches and protects the sensitive sand dunes in Jeffreys Bay has come out strongly against Thuyspunt being selected as a site for a nuclear power plant. The Supertubes Foundation will have a stall at the Billabong Pro surf contest and a petition will be available for all to sign.
