What is a Hare Scramble? Off-road motorcycle racing, hare scrambles are conducted on marked courses over rugged natural terrain. Events are run for a designated number of laps or for a prescribed race time, typically two hours. Competitive riders not only need to be fast, but also physically fit enough to maintain a race pace for hours at a time. Since hare scrambles are conducted on closed courses, operator licenses aren’t required and the machines do not need to be licensed for street use (UK).
