When the traditional Red Bull Air Race takes place in Budapest on August 20, one pilot will be dressed in particularly smart fashion. Local hero Peter Besenyei will be wearing the helmet designed by Hungarian artist László Tartó – winner of Red Bull Arts of Helmet. BRAINY IDEAS At this creative contest ten Hungarian artists transformed their best design ideas for Besenyei’s new helmet with paint brushes and airbrush cans. What they came up with ranged from abstract patterns to images true to the original globe, or a brain. The jury, which included members of the Hungarian Art and Culture Institute, chose the work of Tartó, an employee of the Herend Porcelain Factory. It took the 29-year-old three full working weeks to finish his hand-painted feather pattern. BENEFIT AUCTION On July 11, along with the other nine works of art, there will start an online auction of the winning helmet on www.sisakaukcio.origo.hu. The proceeds of the auction will go to Wings for Life. (Source: Event’s PR)
