On Thursday 18 December 2008, the opening of the FIS Moguls World Championships (Dual Moguls) will be held in the resort of Méribel for the first time. It will take place in Méribel centre, at the Corbey stadium. All the world’s best freestylers will be there to participate in this first international event for the season, in the heart of the Three Valleys. Many volunteers are helping Méribel for this unique event! Mogul skiing is spectacular. Skiers show their technique in the moguls but also their acrobatic skills as they have to make jumps that are more and more impressive. Competitors ski down a steep (28 to 32 degrees), 210 – 270 meters long slope covered by moguls and perform two different jumps on the way down. The event is made upon a qualification round and a final. Marks are given by a panel of 7 judges; 50% depends on the technique, 25% on the jumps and 25% on the speed. The Dual Mogul event is a parallel race where two skiers start at the same time, each with their own fall line. The winner of each race qualifies for the finale. Then the final determines the winner of this World Cup event. Fun and surprises are guaranteed!
